Why Work for Co-efficient?

Coefficient acts as a bridge between outdoor program providers and freelance staff who are searching for work. The big advantage in working for Coefficient is that we can weave together work from different providers into a work program that fits your needs.   Whether you are looking for one day a week or as much work as possible no single outdoor centre can provide the quantity or variety of work that Coefficient can.

Coefficient also looks after our freelance pool by providing rates of pay and conditions that are better than most.  We look after workers compensation, insurance, superannuation and contribute towards the cost of keeping your qualifications up to date. We also provide you with a simple and easy to use logbook so that you can keep a solid record of what you have worked and a pay system that makes it easy for you to keep a record of what you have worked and what you have been paid for!

Another unique feature of working for Coefficient is that we can take on an advocacy role for both freelancers and Outdoor providers. If you’re unhappy with a program provider or they are unhappy with you we can facilitate solutions that work for all parties involved. What We Look For In Our People

The following is a very brief list of things we look for in our people.  This is by no ways an exhaustive list nor is it a minimum requirement list. It is simply a guide as to what we (and our clients) are looking for in people who work with them!

Soft Skills / Human Development Skills

  • A good knowledge of sequencing a programme towards achieving specific objectives
  • A sound knowledge of games and initiatives
  • A positive attitude towards physical and emotional safety
  • A positive attitude towards satisfying the clients perceived and real needs
  • An ability to maintain high 'energy' levels within a group
  • An ability to not only brief and run an activity safely, but to debrief that activity towards specific objectives
  • Be able to demonstrate group processing skills
  • Be able to demonstrate tolerance for ambiguity
  • The ability to observe and interpret behaviour
  • he ability to form appropriate questions and listen to answers
  • A good sense of timing
  • An ability to work with other staff and clients


Hard Skills

Due to the nature of our Industry and the ever increasing need for accredited qualifications, we are looking for people who have a mix of the following, or similar;

  • Flatwater Instructor (Canoeing and Kayaking)
  • Bus licence
  • Childrens Commission Blue Card
  • Certificate III,IV, Diploma in Outdoor Recreation
  • Degree, Grad Dip or Masters In Outdoor Education,Science,Business, Arts
  • Certificate IV in Workplace Training and Assessment
  • Indoor presentation skills
  • Whitewater Instructor (Kayaking)
  • Royal lifesaving Bronze Medallion
  • Powerboat licence
  • ACIA or PACI Rockclimbing qualifications
  • Wilderness First Aid
  • Swiftwater Rescue Technician
  • Any National Outdoor Leader Registration Scheme (NOLRS) registrations
  • International qualifications

What We Provide For Our People

  • Certification Notification: Once you provide us with your certification details. We keep a register of them and notify you when they are about to lapse.

  • Program Logbook: We log every job that we send you on and can provide you with a log of work that tells you the date, program name and duration of every program. We also provide you with a logbook so that you can write down the details of your programs that can be signed off by the client you are working for.

  • Activity Logbook: When necessary we can provide you with a logbook of the number of days you spend working on specific activities such as Climbing, Canoeing etc.

  • Training Opportunities: Throughout the year we will provide a number of training programs to staff at minimum or no cost.

  • Career Path: With our wide range of clients we can help staff identify where they want to be and help them get there. A number of our existing clients are past Co-efficient employees.

  • Pay Rates: Coefficient's current rate of pay is generally higher than industry rates, combined with the quantities of work we can offer, makes us a more attractive proposition than working for individual providers.
